Hi! My name is Becky, and I’m a Year 2 at BHSEC Queens.

Thank you, Astra Taylor, for taking the time to join us!

As I read through this article, I was inspired by the ideas presented by both your questions and Sarah Jaffe’s answers about Americans’ social movements in the 21st century.

It was interesting to think about how we live in an age where movements spread quickly via the Internet and create a larger impact in the political climate. I especially loved your question about if activists need to give people in power paths to be heroes, not just villains, because this was a very deep question focused on the idea that it goes further than just the politicians and their changes. These changes are prompted by the acts of the people, such as Black Lives Matter, the fight for raising minimum wage, LGBTQ+, and other movements that revolve around the people and their social activism. We are what pave the way for these politicians to make change, and I think that you executed this idea in the article.

All of these changes go deeper than just the political level. It often takes a lot from the people of the United States to encourage the change to be made, especially through social activism via the Internet. However, the Internet can potentially be a huge gateway to encourage activism and change.

I wonder: How does the Internet create this change?
